Biography

I was born in Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, at a time when Estonia was still part of the Soviet Union. In 1981, I received a Ph.D. in Genetics from St. Petersburg State University and for the next 20 years, I have been working in research labs in Russia, France, and the United States. In 2003, I decided that it was time to part with the “bench” science and joined InnoCentive, a pioneer in the field of open innovation. I live in Framingham, MA and belong to a weird, endangered species of Massachusetts Republicans.

Politics has always been my passion, and after splitting my adult life almost evenly between Russia and the United States, I’m keenly interested in how political decisions are being made in both countries. Naturally, I’m very concerned about the current state of U.S.-Russia relations and would be happy to see them improved.

Many men of my age seem to go through what is routinely called a “mid-life crisis.” For some it manifests in an acute interest in sport cars, for others, in younger women. My mid-life crisis has emerged as a realization that it wasn’t enough for me to just read, think and talk (to my wife) about Russian and American politics. I felt that I must share my thoughts with other people. Hence this blog.
